Our pie shop in Upper Nyack, New York carries on the same homemade baking tradition that my mom started in 1996. Selling homemade pies and baked goods from the back porch of our house in the village of Nyack. A sign on the corner telephone pole led customers directly to our door, and little by little Mom became known as the “Pie Lady of Nyack.”
Success proved to be too much for her to handle alone, and after several years Mom closed shop and moved to upstate New York. Then two years ago she and I started working together to build up the pie business again, and in November of 2010 we opened “Pie Lady & Son,” our small retail shop on Route 9W.
I manage the business, but Mom is still in charge of the baking. Along with our staff, I get my hands into the pie dough too, but always following her recipes and instructions! When customers stop by for the first time we welcome them to our shop and to our products by assuring them that all of our baked goods are made right here, the old-fashioned way, using flour, butter, sugar, and fresh fruit. That’s how my mom has always done it. Many thanks to all of our customers old and new, for giving us a reason to bake every day.
